God Sad

There is a very beautiful old legend in which someone has pictured the last day - 'the day of the Lord' that the Bible talks about. In paradise on this last day everyone is celebrating, dancing and singing and shouting with great jubilation.

Everyone except Jesus. Jesus is standing very quietly in the shadows of the gates of paradise. Someone asks him what he's doing and, in the midst of all the celebration, he says, 'I am waiting here for Judas'.

That story symbolises the infinite quality of God's forgiving love which he offers even to Judas Iscariot. But the question remains, will Judas use his freedom to accept it or will he reject it? That is the question we must ask about the bit of Judas that's in all of us.
